The Chen Tien Buddhist Temple in Foz do Iguaçu was built in 1996 by Taiwanese Chinese communities.
It is located on the top of a hill with beautiful views of the cities of Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este. The vast garden is adorned by several statues of Buddha and others representing wisdom, enlightenment, and generosity. In the background stands the great Temple wrapped in an aura of silence.
The Temple has two floors, the ground floor with a large hall where there are 18 statues of the Arahants, the people who have reached a state of enlightenment so great that they no longer need to reincarnate. In this the visitor can enter, acquire incense for thanks and prayers and light them in a censer located in front of the temple.
The second floor is a hall where weekly ceremonies are held only on Sundays at 9:30 am (it is necessary to register in advance to participate and obtain the monk’s permission).
At the end of the tour there is a shop with some souvenirs such as incenses, statues and ornaments. There it is also possible to acquire a booklet with more information about the temple, such as the detailed meaning of the statues and a little more about the history of the place.
- Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
