Hummingbird garden is the garden of a residence located in the small town of Puerto Iguazú, Argentina.
The small garden, full of vegetation with flowers, fountains and some special containers containing sugar water attracts the 16 species of hummingbirds native to the region.
It is an unforgettable experience to observe so closely the fantastic flights of these birds.
Curiosities: the vast Trochilidae family (hummingbirds) is unique to the Americas and includes more than 320 species, among which the smallest bird in the world, the hummingbird bee of Cuba (Mellisuga helenae) that weighs 2 grams and measures 5 cm.
The flight of hummingbirds is amazing. They are able to perform up and down flights, suddenly stop in the air like a helicopter and even turn their backs down.
They have an extremely high metabolism, so they require large amounts of food (nectar and small insects); some species even eat up to 8 times more than their weight.
With the drop in ambient temperature at night and without the energy of food, they enter a kind of lethargy (hibernation) and become inert, senseless.
Duration of the visit: 20 minutes
It operates daily from 9 am to 1 pm and from 3 pm to 7 pm.
– this tour is located on the Argentinian side, 22 km from Iguazu Falls, so it is recommended to combine it with the visit to the Falls on the Argentine side.
